| Placer to sue former planner
Placer County supervisors voted Tuesday to sue former county Planning Commissioner Michelle Ollar-Burris and a group of her clients, alleging violations of state planning law. County Counsel Tony LaBouff said the lawsuit, which may be filed as soon as today, will include allegations that Ollar-Burris committed fraud, violated her fiduciary obligations as a planning commissioner and engaged in unfair business practices. Ollar-Burris, an Auburn real estate broker, was removed from the Placer County Planning Commission in June after a Sacramento Bee story detailed real estate transactions that appeared designed to subvert California's Subdivision Map Act. .
China tops India again
For some years now, many Indians have taken solace from the idea that China may be ahead in manufacturing, but can't compare to India when it comes to R&D. Or, as Sunil Jain writes in India's Business Standard, “Tradition has it that while China is the factory of the world, India is going to be the laboratory of the world." But, Jain adds, a top science body in India, the Scientific Advisory Council, last week caused jitters among Indians after assessing a recent U.S. military report comparing the research output of scientists in China, India and other developing countries. Not only was India behind China in number of papers published, Jain notes, but far more Chinese research papers are landing in top Western journals. More worrisome still for the Indians – and encouraging for the Chinese – is the likelihood that the trend is going to continue: Jain writes that the World Bank's “Knowledge Index," a ranking that looks at a country's scientific fundamentals including Internet and PC usage, patents, and IT adoption by local companies, also skews heavily toward China.
Hip-Hop Rumors: Bump J FREE!?! Jim Jones' Reality Show? Mike Jones ...
I was all hyped up to see Jim Jones in the reality show they were filming on VH1, but I don't know what's become of it. It is going around that there was tension between Jim and the producers of the show. There is no such thing as a true reality show, but there is something called “scripted reality." That's what Run and the family do. And that works for some, but Jim Jones is the real deal. I heard he just wasn't with the script and wasn't able to flip it to fit his mode of operation. All the filming is supposedly done, but the editing is very tricky with a reality-based stickler like Jim Jones the Capo. BUMP J IS FREE! I'll never forget bumpin' Chicagorilla, Bump J's mixtape. I was waiting for the official album.

Gonzaga test was needed, Calipari says
After all of the talk about Joey last week, look who ends up playing the most minutes for the Tigers in a huge game. This just goes to show what he can do when he's motivated and concentrates. Love the state line: 9pts, 13rebs, 4blks, 2stls, 0TOs. Granted, he fouled out, but it was at the end of the game and at least one of the fouls was an awful call: when the Zag player was posting up one of our guards on the right block, Joey helped down and made a clean strip but was called for a reach in foul (I think it was his 2nd). The refs also missed two obvious double dribbles by the Zags. Terrible! .
The Watercooler
It appears that this was truly a life-changing experience for them (40,000 miles across five continents can do that to you). Well, it's been, in my opinion, the best race so far of this Emmy-winning series. You had spitting llamas, shaved heads, mounds of uneaten meat, 600 lb. elephant carts, Jerome the Gnome, a bribed bus driver, many missed flights and confused cab drivers and so much more. And even I'll admit that Rob and Amber were smart, skillful players. Not overly ethical, but smart. Once again, congratulations to Uchenna and Joyce! You two deserve it. (PS. In New York, the happy couple were interviewed on CBS local news, and let me tell you, Joyce's hair short but grown in looks great!) DS American Idol 8:02 Truth? I love 'em both, but I had to go with Bo.
