Bernanke's next move:

Just one week after an emergency three-quarter-point interest rate cut to calm jittery global financial markets, the Federal Reserve's rate-setting committee sits down Tuesday to figure out its next move.

While many investors are expecting another aggressive interest rate cut — up to half a point — to help lift the economy out of the doldrums, another cut is far from a sure bet, according to some former members of the panel, known as the Federal Open Market Committee.

Last week's dramatic move came as pressure had been building after a series of weak economic data suggested the economy might be heading into recession. As global stock markets began to tank, the Fed took the unusual step of acting between regularly scheduled meetings of policymakers.

Pro Evolution Soccer 6

My major annoyance with other soccer games is you can punt the ball forward, but there never seems anyone to be in place. Even with complex team and individual placement organisation appearing in the very latest games, I always felt my team wasn't up to the task of getting in position when plays were made. I used to think it could be because I tend to pick lower ranked teams (go Villa!), but even when picking Brazil or Arsenal team AI seemed to be lacking.

In PES, players actually take runs to get into position, they run on the ball, and the game never seems to lag behind the play of the ball. I can't pinpoint for sure if it's the fact that passes to teammates are tighter, or if their on field positioning is better, or even if the controls are more precise, but I've found myself much more able to do exactly what I want my team to do.

Sacramento finds itself in yet another budget hole

Five years on from recalling a governor because of a $20 billion deficit, California is once again $14 billion in the red and in debt to boot.

In 2003, it was the telecom crash that got the blame for ending the fire hose of taxes that had been flowing for a few years into Sacramento.

In 2008, the real estate slowdown is getting the blame.

But the real culprit is Sacramentos refusal to deal with its spending.

As recently as the 2000-2001 fiscal year, Californias general fund expenditures stood at $99.4 billion. That was nearly double expenditures just a decade before, but stay with us.

In the current fiscal year, according to the State Senate Committee on Budget and Fiscal Review, general fund expenditures will total $142 billion, a 43 percent increase in five years.
