Michelle's Movie Halted
Michelle Williams is taking some time out. This lady has had a lot to deal with, so this latest news is good for her. The word is bosses on her latest flick, Blue Valentine, have put filming on hold while the actress copes with the death of her ex, Heath Ledger. A source connected with the film told People: "We will hold off until she is ready. "The production is in the process of sorting it out in respect to her." Production on the film was set to start on 25th February, but has been moved back to an indefinite date. "We're hoping she will still come back and do the film and are happy to wait." We're glad to hear that they've been so understanding. .
Make My Day
INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Last year, after one of my staff left the state government agency where we worked, I received an email from Human Resources, telling me this person had been "separated from employment." Separated from employment, as if the two had been physically attached. Not quit, left, fired, let go, departed, or moved on to greener pastures. No, this was one of those stupid euphemisms that people use to make things sound less bad than they really are. It was probably thought up by the same morons who came up with "right-sizing" to replace the already moronic "downsizing," which replaced "massive layoffs so our executive team could get their bonuses." I left my own job a few weeks ago, and I'm sure my boss got an email telling him I was separated from employment. It sounds like a divorce, which in a way, I guess it was.
Aerojet Receives Community Energy Award
SACRAMENTO, Calif., Oct. 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Aerojet, a GenCorp (NYSE: GY) company, today received the prestigious Community Energy Award from the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD). The SMUD Community Energy Award honors customers who share SMUD's values of energy efficiency and environmental sensitivity, and who work with SMUD to turn these beliefs into actions by managing energy usage, implementing energy efficient upgrades to facilities, and reducing the amount of energy generated in the Sacramento region. SMUD recognized Aerojet for its pilot testing and installation of an alternative environmental remediation system which relies on mixing hydrogen peroxide and ozone (HiPOx) -- rather than on ultraviolet (UV) light. Following the installation in December 2006 of the HiPOx system in one of Aerojet's groundwater extraction and treatment (GET) facilities, the GET's energy usage has dropped from 200 kilowatts per hour to 80 kilowatts per hour, a savings of 120 kilowatts per hour.
Muslim Bakery head wielded political clout
Elihu Harris, mayor before Brown, made the same pilgrimage to the bakery during his campaign. Among others seeking audiences with Bey over the years were City Council members Nate Miley, Ignacio De La Fuente, Larry Reid and Dezie Woods-Jones, according to Saleem Bey and John Bey, so-called "spiritual sons" of the bakery founder. U.S. Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Oakland, Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums and state Sen. Don Perata, D-Oakland, each wrote testimonial letters for the bakery. Former Police Chief Joseph Samuels depended on Yusuf Bey to help improve police relations with the neighborhoods. After the slaying in August of journalist Chauncey Bailey, allegedly killed by a bakery handyman, the story of city leaders genuflecting at the door of the now-disgraced bakery seems troubling.
Aging: Growing Older Is Found to Hurt Decision Making
For the especially unscrupulous con artist, the elderly are a tempting target. Now researchers have confirmed in the lab what frauds already knew instinctively: as they grow older, even people who seem perfectly on top of things may have trouble making good decisions. .
