More heartbreak for Ledger dad
The New York Daily News said the family had chosen a handmade coffin named The Concord, which is considered one of the finest wooden caskets on the market. "It's a very, very beautiful casket - really special, really fancy," the paper quoted a family source as saying. Funeral plans have remained shrouded in secrecy, but the Bowra & O'Dea funeral home in the Perth suburb of Midland is believed to be handling the arrangements. The century-old funeral home is just a couple of miles away from Guildford Grammar, where Ledger went to school in the '90s and where his funeral service is expected to take place later this week. The actor's uncle Mike Ledger said the family was still finalising plans but they were considering holding a private wake at the grammar school. Employees at Bowra & O'Dea were tight-lipped yesterday.
Florida students charged with theft
Two of the 'cycles had been reported stolen in Tallahassee, Fla., in September 2007, and Jan. 20, said sheriff's office investigator David Godwin. "They'd all been hot-wired," Watkins explained. The 2006 and 2007 vehicles are in the impound yard at the Jail-Justice Center. Three of the four people arrested have Tallahassee addresses, but all are from Michigan, Watkins said. One attends FAMU; the others are students at Tallahassee Community College. The origin of three laptop computers and two monitors in the students' possession, along with the third motorcycle, also is being looked at in the investigation. Officers said many motorcycles have been stolen in Tallahassee in recent months. Charged in the case are: Cedric Porch Stringer, 19, theft by bringing stolen property into the state, misdemeanor marijuana possession.
Microsoft To Provide Paid Search Listings For Wall Street Journal
Under the agreement, Microsoft will use technology from its Advertiser and Publisher Solutions Group to place third-party, paid search listings on the Dow Jones Web sites. "Microsoft's state-of-the-art advertising platform will enable us to dramatically improve our revenues," said Gordon McLeod, president of the Wall Street Journal Digital Network, in a statement. Microsoft acquired much of its online advertising technology through its $6 billion buyout last year of aQuantive -- the corporate parent of digital ad agency Avenue A-Razorfish. Microsoft said it expects to start serving up ads on the Dow Jones sites starting next month. Both Microsoft and Dow Jones will presumably receive per-click payments from companies who's ads appear on WSJ.com and the other Web sites, though Microsoft did not provide specifics of the arrangement.
